Kasbah to Coast

From ancient desert Ksars of Ait Ben Haddou to endless beaches of the Atlantic Coast

Our Kasbah to Coast ride is a signature Dream Getaway Morocco experience, designed to showcase the very best of horse riding in Morocco. This carefully curated journey explores two of the country’s most iconic regions — the ancient ksar of Aït Ben Haddou and the wild Atlantic coast of Sidi Kaouki near Essaouira — combining two unforgettable rides.

We begin in Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site once at the heart of the caravan routes used by nomadic spice traders travelling to Marrakech. Here, you will ride through timeless desert landscapes and explore the historic ksar, whose dramatic architecture has featured in films such as Gladiator. After this, you will spend a few nights in Marrakech, giving you time to wander the medina, discover hidden riads, and experience the colours, sounds, and energy of the city before continuing west toward the Atlantic coast.

In Sidi Kaouki, a traditional Amazigh fishing village famous for its surf culture and unspoiled beaches, you will experience a completely different side of Morocco on horseback. Long stretches of golden sand and wide Atlantic horizons create the perfect setting for relaxed beach rides and open spaces that make this region a true paradise for horse riding in Morocco.

Horses and Riding

Our horses are all well schooled Arab and Barb stallions. They are strong and forward going but very kind in nature. Experienced riders can enjoy challenging riding across a variety of terrain with breathtaking scenery. Whilst there are lots of opportunity for faster paces there are long periods of walk due to the rocky ground. Riders can expect to spend 4 to 6 hours a day in the saddle. The horses are equipped with English style tack and have saddle bags for your essentials.

This holiday is best enjoyed by intermediate and advanced riders, for the best experience we recommend that you are comfortable riding at all three paces and confident in riding a forward going horse over open ground. A good level of physical / ride fitness is also required.

Ait Benhaddou

The area of Ait Ben Haddou is home to ancient caravan routes used by the Saharan nomads to reach the trading centre of Marrakesh. Follow in their footsteps and explore the incredible landscapes the region has to offer whilst immersing yourself in Berber nomad culture.

The riding covers around 25km each day and takes in a variety of different landscapes, giving you a great introduction to the region of Ourazazate. Over the course of your trek we will ride through the over mountains, through the green valleys, across the desert and through palm lined oasis.

Each night we will camp out under the stars in traditional Nomadic tents. Guest house option is also available as well as a centre based trek for those who prefer to stay in one location.

The riding covers a variety of terrain and there is plenty of opportunity for long stretches of trot and canter.

Sidi Kaouki

The riding from Sidi Kaouki covers upto 25km each day and takes in a variety of different landscapes, giving you a great introduction to the Essaouira region. Over the course of your trip we will ride through the Argan forests, along the rugged coastline, through Berber villages, across the sand dunes, Essaouira's mini Sahara and of course along the long stretches of sandy beaches.

Each night we will return to our villa accommodation in Sidi Kaouki.

The riding covers a variety of terrain from gravel paths, rocky inclines, deep sand and long stretches of secluded sandy beach. The pace of the riding varies throughout the day but there is plenty of opportunity for long stretches of trot, canter and gallop.

Inside, cozy Amazigh-inspired décor wraps you in warmth and comfort, offering a true home away from home as you rest between your adventures.
